Inductive-Coupling RFID System

An inductive-coupling RFID system consists of an electronic data carrier, usually with a single microchip, and an antenna made by a large area coil.

In inductively coupled-mode, the tags work passively, and all the energy needed to operate the microchip in the tag is provided by the inductive electromagnetic energy transmitted by the reader. The reader generates a high-frequency electromagnetic field, which induces an electromagnetic current in the tag by traversing the cross-section and surrounding space of the coil.
